The word yoni means “source”, "origin", “womb” or "vagina". The yoni consists of the entire female genital system. Many wom(b)en choose to use the word yoni in preference to vagina as it encompasses the entire system of creation within the female body (the reproductive system consisting of the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries) AND opens the door to reclaiming the sacredness and power of our sexuality as goddesses.
The Yoni has been revered in cultures across the globe for millennia as the physical embodiment of and gateway to the Divine Feminine aspect of the universal creative energy.
According to Tantra Yoga, the yoni is the origin of life, the Source of the Universe. In Hinduism, the yoni is a symbol of Shakti - the anthropomorphized representation of the creative force that moves the Universe with her Divine Masculine counterpart Shiva - the anthropomorphized representation of the initiation of the creative process - physically represented as the lingam (penis, male reproductive organ, system & process).
The yoni has been revered in cultures across the globe for millennia as the physical
embodiment of and gateway to the Divine Feminine aspect of the universal creative energy.
Men through the ages have instinctively (and even at times consciously) known to have sex with a spiritually aligned woman to receive healing and harness some of her creative power through her yoni. However, if the partnership is not balanced, and both individuals are not coming into the union with conscious intention and alignment, residual energetic "toxins" (traumas, frustrations, negative emotions and energy) can be transferred into the womb space during such an unequal transaction.
The womb space is an important area for a wom(b)an physically, emotionally and energetically. The Yoni is the sacred temple within the female body that houses Shakti. It is not only an area meant for sensual pleasure and human reproduction, but it is also our sacred seat of creation from an energetic and spiritual standpoint.
How a womban feels about her womb space and who she allows to enter her most sacred temple can not only effect her fertility / ability to create babies, but also her ability to birth ideas and things from her mind and heart into physical existence, affect her connection with the Divine, block/inhibit her intuitive powers AND can have a strong, often times even detrimental effect on the relationships she forges and engages with platonically and romantically with both men and other womben.
When we have negative womb experiences such as childhood sexual traumas/ molestation, rape, even acts of emotional abuse or neglect within a trusted or intimate relationship such as being habitually lied to or cheated on then gaslighted, each of those experiences gets logged in our body and trapped within our womb space on an energetic level creating blockages which impedes our emotional and spiritual growth and can even manifest as physiological blockages and issues such as heavy, painful periods, infertility or even cancers of the womb.
Being that the yoni / womb space is our creative center, it's important that we honor and care for her physically and energetically. To keep the yoni in optimal condition, it is imperative to work to heal our past womb traumas and associated emotional issues while simultaneously working to cleanse, heal and support the physical health of our yoni.
How can I tell if my Yoni / Womb Space is imbalanced or in need of healing?
Below are a few signs or symptoms you can use to determine if you are in need of womb healing:
Menstruation is heavy - lasts more than 3 days, may pass blood clots
Menstruation is painful - accompanied by cramps, head, back or leg aches
Menstruation accompanied by PMS, mood swings, depression, anger, hostility
Vaginal itching or burning
Offensive vaginal odor
Chronic vaginal discharge
Yeast infections or Candida
Vaginal dryness
Painful sex
Inability to experience an orgasm
Frigidity (averse to sexual activity)
Experienced sexual abuse (rape, molestation)
Have contracted a sexually transmitted disease
Infertility
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Blocked fallopian tubes
Medically diagnosed fibroids, tumors, or cysts
Endometriosis
Uterine prolapse
Uterine cancer
Have had a hysterectomy
Toxemia during pregnancy
Miscarriage(s)
Abortion(s)
Continually attract toxic intimate partners
Even if you have not experienced any of the above or do not feel you are in serious need of healing, its always a good idea to practice lovingly caring for your Divine Seat of Creation as a form of protection and upkeep of your Divine Feminine creative energy.
What can I do to cleanse, heal and honor my Sacred Womb Space?
Practice good hygiene using only soaps, lotions & products made from natural ingredients.
Bathe daily cleansing the entire vaginal area including the outer labia, inner labia, clitoris and any pubic hair you may have. Since the vagina is a self cleaning organ, do not use soap inside the vagina. Strive to use only 100% natural products as much as possible. Using chemically created and artificially processed products in and on our bodies can disturb our delicate pH balance and puts added strain on our liver and kidneys to detox the artificial chemicals from our bodies. Remember the skin absorbs any thing you put on it, so if you put it on your skin, you might as well be eating it. My rule of thumb is if you can't *safely* eat it, don't put it on your skin & definitely not in your yoni!
Keep a proper pH balance.
When your body, especially your yonis' pH is out of balance, your yoni is susceptible to infections such as yeast infections and may start to have a foul odor, or even itch. Doing things such as using natural products, drinking enough water, consuming an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, etc. can help ensure your yoni stays balanced.
More information on proper vaginal pH & how to keep your yoni pH balanced in an upcoming post.
Reduce or eliminate your consumption of meat and animal products (mucus forming foods).
Consuming animal products produces mucus in the body. Mucus forming foods create an acid environment in the body which taxes your immune system as it struggles to regain balance. A weakened immune system leaves you vulnerable to developing illnesses and diseases. Mucus solidifies into tumors in the body which can become malignant and lead to cancers. The body is programmed to strive towards a state of homeostasis and will try to purge itself of the excess mucus, this causes mucus discharge from all the orifices of the body - eyes, ears, nose, colon and the vagina in an attempt to rid itself of the mucus, causing (yoni specific) heavy or chronic vaginal discharge, heavier and longer periods which may be accompanied by aches and pains, and can lead to the formation of tumors within the yoni.
Introduce and consume more fruits and vegetables your daily diet.
If possible, in addition to eating ample amounts fruits and vegetables daily, drink 8 to 16 ounces of fresh pressed, organic fruit and vegetable juice every day or at least 3x per week. Try going on a fast consuming only freshly pressed fruit/vegetable juices, herbal teas and/or water for at least 3 days per season (4x per year).
More information on a specific yoni healing diet in an upcoming post.
Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water daily.
This is the minimum recommendation for water consumption required to keep your muscles, organs and tissues adequately hydrated to perform their functions in keeping you healthy. Drink up to a gallon of water daily in addition to regular exercise to detoxify your body. The yoni is one of the orifices your body uses to purge toxins from so drinking enough water also helps to cleanse the yoni of residual toxins from your body.
Cleanse your colon.
If you are not eliminating at least as many times as you eat ( 3 meals = 3 voids), your body is storing that extra waste in your colon where it is both being reabsorbed into your blood stream and weighing down upon your uterus increasing your risk of uterine prolapse. Cleansing the colon by use of an enema or by getting a colonic by a colon therapist releases the toxic load in your body & lightens the weight upon your uterus.
Take relaxing, cleansing baths using plants & herbs.
Adding herbs in your bath water helps your body detox through the pores of the skin and out of the yoni. Be sure to drink at least a quart of water while you're in the bath to assist in the detoxification process. Make this a personal self care ritual. Light candles and incense, play soft music - make it a truly blissful, rejuvenating experience!
More information on specific herbs to use & instructions in an upcoming post.
Gently massage the pelvic area.
Massage your lower abdomen from right to left (as perceived by you) in a clockwise, circular motion, sending positive thoughts, intentions and affirmations into the womb space as you massage. Use olive oil, vitamin E, sweet almond oil, shea butter or any (natural preferred) lotion that your love the consistency or scent of or perform intentionally during one of your baths or showers.
Use clay packs internally and externally.
Using natural clay externally on the lower abdomen and internally inside the womb space is an excellent and very effective way to draw out toxins from the yoni.
More information and instructions in an upcoming post.
Get a Yoni Steam.
Yoni steaming helps to draw toxins out of the womb using the power of natural herbs given to us by Mother Earth. Its like a mini steam bath for your yoni and it feels so luxurious!
More information on the benefits of yoni steaming and how to do your own steam at home in an upcoming post.
Tone, strengthen and train your yoni with Yoni Eggs.
Stones are Mother Earths gifts to us to assist us along our spiritual journey. Every stone has its own energetic signature and properties which it emanates into the environment (ex. rose quartz for emotional healing & love- self love, intimate or universal; obsidian for grounding and protection; jade for abundance, health and well-being, etc) Yoni eggs are pieces of natural stone such as jade or quartz carefully shaped and polished into the shape of an egg ranging in size from a robins egg to a hens egg that you insert into the vaginal canal and use in addition to kegel exercises to strengthen and tone the vaginal and perineal muscles. Yoni egg usage has many benefits including the prevention and reversal of incontinence, increasing vaginal strength and promoting the natural production of lubrication.
More information and instructions on yoni eggs, how to choose, properly and effectively use and care for your yoni egg in an upcoming post.
Practice some form of Sacred Movement.
Movement is essential to our overall well-being helping to increase blood flow and circulation throughout the body and lighten and tone the womb. Aerobic exercise, dance, yoga, etc. are all excellent ways to keep your energy flowing and circulating within your body. Try different forms of movement to see what resonates most with you and your needs.
Practice meditation and utilize positive womb affirmations daily.
Make some time every day to sit in silence and go within. Check in with yourself how you feel physically, emotionally, your mentally, energetically. You can meditate almost anywhere, anytime. Find some peace and quiet contemplation over a mug of tea, in the shower or bath, or even while washing dishes or sweeping / mopping the floor.
Allow yourself to fully feel the pain you have been carrying so that you may fully heal.
Don't try to turn away from or bury the pain because you are afraid to re-live the traumatic experience. We can only heal what we allow ourselves to feel. Realize you cannot change what happened. Take your power back by reframing your view of yourself in terms of your resilience as a "survivor" not as a "victim" and resolving to no longer allowing it to negatively affect your daily life.
A more detailed post on methods of self healing from trauma coming soon.
Call upon the power of your Ancestors.
During your meditation practice, call upon the power and wisdom of your foremothers to assist you in healing your womb space. Remember, when you heal your womb, you heal their wombs, releasing the burden of the cycle of ancestral and generational womb trauma.
Trust in your innate power to self heal.
As children of the Universe, we are all innately endowed with the power to heal ourselves. The power of the mind to affect and effect our physical bodies and reality has been extensively recorded by the scientific community (think: the placebo effect). Believe that you can heal and put that faith into action by doing things to support your healing daily.
Rest.
As you do all you can to support your healing, remember to take time to slow down, rest and get enough sleep. It is during rest that the bodys' natural healing process happens. Stressing about every little detail and generally "doing too much" will actually only work against you. So, rest love, you owe it to yourself.
When you heal the womb, you heal the world.
I sincerely hope this post has been helpful to you as your embark or continue upon your womb healing journey. If so, please share this with a sister you think would appreciate and benefit from it.
I will be making more posts detailing these and other specific ways to cleanse, heal and protect our most sacred space and reclaim our birthright as keepers of the Divine Feminine creative energy from physical, emotional and energetic standpoints in the coming days and weeks.
Until next time..
